Lyrics for “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Lyrics
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on, liv
Our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
Our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

Through the years we all will be together
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

Frank Sinatra Singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is a song introduced by Judy Garland in the 1944 MGM musical Meet Me in St. Louis. In the movie, Judy Garland’s character, Esther, sings the song for her five-year-old sister, who is upset about their dad’s plans to take a job promotion in New York.

Garland’s version of the song was popular with soldiers serving in WWII, but Frank Sinatra later recorded a different version of the song that became more popular than the original.

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” was written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane and has been an enduring favorite. In 2007, ASCAP ranked “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” the third most performed Christmas song during the preceding five years that had been written by ASCAP members.
